The sphenoid bone, also called wedge-shaped bone, lies at the middle part of the base of the skull. It is prominent and irregular too. The sphenoid bone is considered'keystone' of the cranial floor because it is in contact with all of the other cranial bones or articulates the other cranial bones, holding them together.
