Mathematics

Secx = 1/cosx
cot x = 1/tanx
1 + tan^2(x) = sec^2(x)
minus tan^2(x) on both sides,
1 = sec^2(x) - tan^2(x)

sec(x)/cos(x) - tan(x)/cot(x)
=1/cos^2(x) - tan^2(x)
= sec^2(x) - tan^2(x)
= 1

Are (2,9) and (-3,-6) both on the line y = 4x + 6? If not, find an equation for the line that does pass through both points.
igor_vitrenko [27]

Answer:

no, y=3x+3

Step-by-step explanation:

plug both points into the equations:

  • 9=4*2 +6 -> 9=8+6, doesn't work
  • -6=4(-3)+6 -> -6=-6, works

one works but the other doesn't so now we find a line through both points

use the formula (y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1) to find the slope:

  • (-6-9)/(-3-2)=-15/-5=3

y=3x+b, plug in a point to find b:

  • 9=3(2)+b
  • 9=6+b
  • b=3
  • y=3x+3

shepuryov [24]

Using the normal distribution, it is found that there is a 0.1357 = 13.57% probability that the total  amount paid for these second movies will exceed $15.00.

In a <em>normal distribution</em> with mean \mu and standard deviation \sigma, the z-score of a measure X is given by:

Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma}

  • It measures how many standard deviations the measure is from the mean.
  • After finding the z-score, we look at the z-score table and find the p-value associated with this z-score, which is the percentile of X.
  • For n instances of a normal variable, the mean is n\mu and the standard error is s = \sigma\sqrt{n}

In this problem:

  • Mean of $0.47, standard deviation $0.15, hence \mu = 0.47, \sigma = 0.15
  • 30 instances, hence n\mu = 30(0.47) = 14.1, s = 0.15\sqrt{30} = 0.8216

The probability is <u>1 subtracted by the p-value of Z when X = 15</u>, hence:

Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma}

Considering the n instances:

Z = \frac{X - n\mu}{s}

Z = \frac{15 - 14.1}{0.8216}

Z = 1.1

Z = 1.1 has a p-value of 0.8643.

1 - 0.8643 = 0.1357.

0.1357 = 13.57% probability that the total  amount paid for these second movies will exceed $15.00.

The diagram shows a right triangle with legs that measure 4 and 7.
anyanavicka [17]

Calculate the hypotenuse( h ) using Pythagoras' identity

h =√(4² + 7²) = √(16 + 49) = √65

sinΘ = 4 / √65  ⇒ cscθ = √65 / 4

cosθ = 7/ √65 ⇒ secθ = √65 / 7

tanθ = \frac{4}{7} ⇒ cotθ = \frac{7}{4}
