The English Civil War took place from 1642 to 1651. It was the result of the Stuart's takeover of the Kingdom of England and the reign of Charles I. This revolution ended with the judgment and execution of King Charles I on January 30, 1649 at Whitehall near Westminster; the monarchy was abolished and a republic, called the Commonwealth of England was established with Oliver Cromwell at its head. This landmark revolution in England and Europe was a crucial step in the transformation of the English royal power, which would gradually move towards a constitutional monarchy.
GLORIOUS REVOLUTION:
-Parliament feared the risk of a Catholic dynasty ruling England.
-The king proclaimed religious freedom without consulting Parliament.
The Glorious Revolution was the set of events around 1688-1689 that led to the deposition of James II of England and its replacement with William III. It was not just a struggle for succession, but the beginning of a new constitutional monarchy which, with the Bill of Rights (1689), recognized the prerogatives of the Parliament and the limits placed on royal authority. The king remained essentially the executive power.
