Rectangle- multiply it’s height by width
Square- you need to find the length of one of the sides and then multiply this by itself to find the area.

Answer:

Yes it is same . In rectangle the area is length × breadth but in sqiare as the length and breadth are equal , the area becomes side × side = side²

<em><u>This problem seems to be wrong because no minimum point was found and no point of landing exists</u></em>

Answer:

1) There is no maximum height

2) The ball will never land

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Derivatives</u>

Sometimes we need to find the maximum or minimum value of a function in a given interval. The derivative is a very handy tool for this task. We only have to compute the first derivative f' and have it equal to 0. That will give us the critical points.

Then, compute the second derivative f'' and evaluate the critical points in there. The criteria establish that

If f''(a) is positive, then x=a is a minimum

If f''(a) is negative, then x=a is a maximum

1)

The function provided in the question is

h(x)=2x^2-12x+20

Let's find the first derivative

h'(x)=4x-12

solving h'=0:

4x-12=0

x=3

Computing h''

h''(x)=4

It means that no matter the value of x, the second derivative is always positive, so x=3 is a minimum. The function doesn't have a local maximum or the ball will never reach a maximum height

2)

To find when will the ball land, we set h=0

2x^2-12x+20=0

Simplifying by 2

x^2-6x+10=0

Completing squares

x^2-6x+9+10-9=0

Factoring and rearranging

(x-3)^2=-1

There is no real value of x to solve the above equation, so the ball will never land.

This problem seems to be wrong because no minimum point was found and no point of landing exists

Which of these four sets of side lengths will form a right triangle? Set 1 4 cm, 5 cm, 6 cm Set 2 8 in., 12 in., 20 in. Set 3 10
Alenkasestr [34]

Answer:  The correct option is (D) SET 4.

Step-by-step explanation:  We are to select the correct set of side lengths that will form a right-angled triangle.

To form a right-angled triangle, we must have the following relation:

<em>Perpendicular² + Base² = Hypotenuse².</em>

<em>Hypotenuse is the length of the largest side; perpendicular and base are the two legs of the triangle.</em>

SET 1 :  14 cm, 5 cm, 6 cm.

We have

5^2+6^2=25+36=61,\\\\14^2=196.

Therefore,

<em>Perpendicular² + Base² ≠ Hypotenuse².</em>

So, this set will not form a right-angled triangle.

SET 2 :  8 in., 12 in., 20 in.

We have

8^2+12^2=64+144=208,\\\\20^2=400.

Therefore,

<em>Perpendicular² + Base² ≠ Hypotenuse².</em>

So, this set will not form a right-angled triangle.

SET 3 :  10 mm, 20 mm, 30 mm.

We have

10^2+20^2=100+400=500,\\\\30^2=900.

Therefore,

<em>Perpendicular² + Base² ≠ Hypotenuse².</em>

So, this set will not form a right-angled triangle.

SET 4 :  12 ft, 16 ft, 20 ft.

We have

12^2+16^2=144+256=400,\\\\20^2=400.

Therefore,

<em>Perpendicular² + Base² = Hypotenuse².</em>

So, this set will form a right-angled triangle.

Thus, the SET 4 will form a right-angles triangle.

Option (D) is correct.
