Akela is quite intelligent and knows that once Mowgli has become a grown up he will be able to have control over the red flower which is actually <em>fire</em>. Therefore fire is a very powerful tool to have control over animals and to have control over Shere Khan. So Akela wants Mowgli to stay because he will be of great help in the future.
