The aging process is thought to be initiated at the cellular level. Among the changes that can occur after a certain number of c

ell divisions is the loss of a cell’s ability to respond to growth factors and other signals. Much research into aging is aimed at understanding such losses, with the ultimate goal of extending the human life span. Not everyone, however, agrees that this is a desirable goal. If life expectancy were greatly increased, what might be the social and ecological consequences?

Answer:

Enhancement in the life expectancy of humans can exhibit certain unwanted outcomes that could affect the quality of life. Some of the probable social and ecological outcomes due to an increase in life expectancy are:

Social: Greater life expectancy would signify that the age of employment would get extended. As an outcome, the older individuals would hold the seats for a longer duration, leaving only some seats for the young. This would influence the life quality and development of the young.

Due to the increase in life expectancy, there would be an elevation in the demand for basic needs, and increased consumption of food increased utilization of land, and larger population. The use of global resources would increase by humans, therefore, declining the resources at a greater rate. Hence, overall, the ratio of the old to the young would get influenced, and therefore, the quality of life would get affected.

Ecological: With longer life expectancy, there will be an enhanced burden of human species on the planet Earth. Due to this, the balance between the humans and the other species would get disturbed. Human activities have been substantially related to the issues of global warming, issues of deforestation, endangering of other species resulting in ecological imbalance.

Enhancement in the life expectancy of humans would cause further destruction of endangered species and huge imbalance in the ecosystems that would eventually influence life of human beings. Therefore, ecological in combination with socioeconomic influence of greater life expectancy incline towards reduced quality of life, and it is not desirable.

Why are telomeres a necessary component of linear chromosomes?
Lerok [7]

Answer:

Bacause they protect the chromosomes

Explanation:

A telomere is a repetitive region located at the ends of a chromosome, their function is to act as caps to protect the inner regions when the chromosome is worn down during DNA replication. This worning out happens because a short stretch of DNA is not covered by an Okazaki fragment and therefore is not copied, eventually over multiple rounds of division <em>the telomers will prevent the shortening to reach the important inner part that contains the genetical information.</em>

I hope you find this information useful and interesting! Good luck!

Match the animals to the phenomenon that they undergo
serg [7]

Answer: The first and the fourth figure is showing the two stages of metamorphosis in beetle. The first figure represents the adult stage of beetle and the last figure represents the larvae stage of beetle. Metamorphosis is the biological process by which an organism goes through differentiation of cells. As a result of this differentiation the structure of the organism changes from one to another. There are four stages egg, larvae, pupa, adult.

The second figure shows regeneration in cnidaria. They repair their body and reproduce asexually by this process. They show two stages polyp and medusae. Medusae have less ability to regenerate but poly stage can regenerate from small parts. This ability helps corals to heal back after being destroyed by predators.

The third figure represents cow and this is an unique feature of mammals to produce milk by their mammary gland. During the lactation period the cow produces milk that is used by cattle and human beings.

How would an inhibitor of cAMP phosphodiesterase affect glucose mobilization in muscle? It would increase cAMP levels, which wou
dedylja [7]

Answer:It would maintain high cAMP levels and elevate glucose mobilization.

Explanation:

Gas stimulates adenylate cyclase, leading to the generation

of cAMP. This signal then leads to glucose mobilization. If cAMP phosphodiesterase were inhibited, then

cAMP levels would remain high even after the termination of the

epinephrine signal, and glucose mobilization would continue
