A large hospital has an annual demand for 70.000 booklets on healthy eating. It cost $.75 to store one booklet for a year, and
Goryan [66]

Answer:

It will order 3,865 booklets

Explanation:

We need to use the formula for Economic Optimal Quantity

Q_{opt} = \sqrt{\frac{2DS}{H}}

Where:

D = annual demand

S= supply cost = ordering cost

H= Holding Cost

Q_{opt} = \sqrt{\frac{2*70,000*80}{.75}}

Q_{opt} =3,864.37

It will order 3,865 booklets

How to Remember:

Demand per year and order cost goes in the dividend.

Holding cost goes in the divisor.

uppose the Social Security payroll tax were increased today to 16.4 percent in order to solve the 75-year fiscal imbalance in th
dexar [7]

Answer:

Ideally, the amount of the social security payout depends on the average lifetime earning of the residents of the country. The government averages the earning and then finalizes on the amount to be paid by each of the resident. If the payroll tax increases, in the longer run a few workers will get affected but, in the short run the increase has its immediate effect on 92% of the workers. Out of the 92%, 78% have a phase out option whereas 48% of them are under the as-needed scenario.

But, the longer a rate increase is delayed, the higher the increase in lifetime taxes for later generations. Workers born1936–1990 would have higher increases in lifetime taxes under an immediate rate rise, workers born 1996–2005 would generally have higher increases in lifetime taxes under phased increases, and workers born 2006–2015 would have higher increases in lifetime taxes under as-needed increases. The future workers would experience the smallest tax increases under the immediate option. Lifetime taxes for workers born 2011–2015 would rise 16 percent under an immediate increase, 27 percent under phased increases, and 33 percent under as-needed increases.

Thus,The increase in the payroll taxes will increase the cost for the people at different income level, as it is calculated on the basis of the income of the individual. As the women are paid lesser than their male counterparts, it can be said that the male population will be affected more by the increase in the social security payout.

WARRIOR [948]

Answer:

1. What environmental, social, and political risks might arise in supply chain operations in Haiti?

An enviromental risk is another earthquake. Haiti is a very seismic country, and infraestructure quality is low: it can easily crumble down in the even of a strong earthquake (unlike other highly seismic countries with high quality infraestructure, for example: Japan).

A social risk is the possiblity of workers' revolts. The workers may feel exploited, or not at ease within the company, and decided to revolt. Haiti is a violent country, and the revolt could easily become a full-scale conflict that would result in the closing of most, of all of the firms associated with the supply chain.

A political risk is the possibility of property seizure by the government. Haiti does not rank high in government stability, judicial independence, or property rights protections. A new government could become authoritarian, and decide to seize the firms associated with the supply chain.

2. What are the foreseeable costs and benefits from supply chain operations in Haiti?

Low labor costs: the average per capita income in Haiti is $450, and the poverty rate is over 50%, while the underemployment rate is over 60%. This means that people are willing to work, and will work for very low wages, meaning lower costs accross the supply chain.

Untapped market: Even if Haiti is a very poor country, for the same reason it has a great potential to grow, since poor, developing countries tend to grow faster than advanced nations. If the economy of Haitin turns upwards, the firms along the supply chain will likely benefit from being the first in the new market.

3. How could you ensure that your company’s involvement would play a beneficial role in Haiti’s economic recovery?

Paying fair wages, following the country's laws, avoiding illegal practices such as bribing, and putting aside some of the company's income for social contributions such as donations to schools and hospitals (corporate social responsability).
