Antigone and Ismene heard with horror what Creon had decided. To Ismene, shocking as it was, overwhelming her with anguish for t

he pitiful dead body and the lonely, homeless soul, it seemed, nevertheless, that nothing could be done except to acquiesce. She and Antigone were utterly alone. All Thebes was exulting that the man who had brought war upon them should be thus terribly punished. "We are women," she told her sister. "We must obey. We have no strength to defy the State." "Choose your own part," Antigone said. "I go to bury the brother I love." "You are not strong enough," Ismene cried. "Why, then when my strength fails," Antigone answered, "I will give up." She left her sister; Ismene dared not follow her. –“The Royal House of Thebes,” Edith Hamilton How does the character of Ismene contrast with Antigone’s archetype?

Read the excerpt from Act III of The Importance of Being Earnest. Jack. [In a pathetic voice.] Miss Prism, more is restored to y
Crank

Answer: She believes in adherence to societal expectations.

The Importance of Being Earnest is a play by Oscar Wilde. The play is a satire of Victorian ways, in particular the treatment of institutions such as marriage.

In this excerpt, Jack reveals that he is the lost baby that Miss Prism left at Victoria Station. Joyous at the revelation, he attempts to embrace Miss Prism, at which she replies that she is unmarried. The implication here is that she cannot embrace a man who is not her husband, whoever the man is and whatever the situation they are in. It shows an almost absurd and comical adherence to social expectations.

ser-zykov [4K]

Answer: If uniforms are worn parents and students don’t have to worry about following a dress code and kids have no reason to pick on someone for the clothes they wear, because everyone will be wearing the same thing.
