= 2 ← scale factor
hence w = 2 × 2.3 = 4.6 cm
(b)
The perimeters are linear and will also be proportional with a scale factor of 2
the areas are proportional with scale factor 2² = 4
That is the area of rectangle B is 4 times the area of rectangle A
In general
If 2 figures are similar then linear ratio of sides = k
Then the ratio of their areas is k²
and the ratio of their volumes is k³
