Answer:

Explanation:

Life expectancy is defined as the number of years a person is expected to live. This life expectancy can be influenced or affected by so many factors e.g geographic location, quality of health, work.

Quality of life you live affects life expectancy e.g an addict who smokes and consumes a lot of alcohol cannot live longer than a person who eats healthy foods. A person born in a remote area where there is inadequate or no access to quality health care system can be exposed to certain sicknesses, diseases which can reduce their life expectancy. Researchers have found out that skilled workers have a greater life expectancy of about 8 years longer compared to unskilled workers.

ASHA 777 [7]

Answer:

Colonel William Crawford Gorgas

Explanation:

Colonel William Crawford Gorgas led the Sanitation Department team, with more than 4,000 employees with a $2 million budget by the end of 1906. The team started with screening of operational buildings, residences, hospitals, and railway car windows and doors. The team made use of 120 tons of pyrethrum powder (a dried flower that served as an insecticide), 300 tons of sulphur, and 50,000 gallons of kerosene oil per month in a massive fumigation program.

The sanitation team was divided into Stegomyia and Anopheles teams.

The Stegomyia fumigation team, carried out their operations by sealing doors and windows with paper, burning sulphur or pyrethrum for at least an hour in each room. They also laid a skim of oil on all water containers, cisterns, cesspools, and drainage ditches weekly to prevent mosquito propagation.

Their activities led to the end of the yellow fever epidemic in November with only forty-seven fatalities.

On the other hand, the Anopheles team were equipped with mowers, machetes, and flamethrowers, where they hacked and burned away jungle vegetation to create sunny, windy areas that deprived Anopheles of its preferred habitat.

They also, create water-filled pans to entice mosquitoes to lay eggs, then dumped the larvae down a disinfected drain.

New well screened hospitals were also built, and isolation centers created with separate wards for different diseases. The results was that, no U.S. citizen died in Panama in the last three months of 1906, and eventually, Panama went from death-trap to a free from diseases community.

Explain the significance of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Who was involved? Why did it happen? What happened as a result of this a
mylen [45]

Answer:

FDR had been stirring up conflicts in Europe since around 1935 in the hopes of getting the United States involved in a war to create jobs after his New Deal programs failed.

The war in Europe didn't involve United States' interests, and so Congress wouldn't give FDR the green light.

To force their hand, he arranged for oil embargoes around the Pacific and then lured Japan to America with promises of much-needed oil.

First, however, they were required to purchases licenses to buy the oil and then Roosevelt reneged on selling them at the last minute. This infuriated the Japanese, provoking them into attacking Pearl Harbor.

In doing this, FDR's provocation of Japan to attack the US was an act of treason.

Cones are concentrated at the center of retina called fovea centralis where no rod cells are present.

The retina is the innermost lining of the eye, made up of thousands of light-sensitive cells, with an inner part of nerve tissue and a pigmented outer part. It plays a fundamental role in the formation of images, which will be projected and then sent to the brain, through electrical impulses.

The retina consists of three types of layers: bipolar neurons, ganglion neurons and photosensitive cells.

Bipolar neurons promote the union of photosensitive cells with ganglion neurons, which are grouped with nerve fibers and thus originate the optic nerve. It carries nerve impulses to the brain. Photosensitive cells, due to their shape, are named in two types: cones and rods.

There are about 6 million cones that are concentrated in a small depression located in the macula lutea (center of the retina) called the fovea. They have an elongated and cylindrical shape, with conical outer segments. It is in this region that the image is most clearly formed, as they are stimulated by the most intense light. Cones are specialized in the accuracy of daytime vision and in recognizing color. There are three types of cones that have fundamental photopigments that respond to light of wavelengths (λ): cyanopigment - S cones (short λ) - sensitive to blue color, chloropigment - M cones (medium λ) - sensitive to green color and erytopigment - cones L (λ long) - sensitive to red color. The brain interprets the signals received by these cones, which allows it to process color differentiation.
