[BRUTUS.] But this same day Must end that work the ides of March begun; And whether we shall meet again I know not. Therefore ou

r everlasting farewell take. Forever and forever farewell, Cassius. If we do meet again, why, we shall smile. If not, why then, this parting was well made.
–The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, William Shakespeare

If a synonym of everlasting, such as overlong, were used in its place, how would the meaning of this passage change?

A- It would result in a more positive and cheerful goodbye speech.
B- It would make the passage very dark by revealing the men’s fate.
C- It would remove the foreboding tone that suggests their possible deaths.

Answer:

The correct option is C) It would remove the foreboding tone that suggests their possible deaths.

Explanation:

Although synonyms are words which have the same meaning but sometimes using a synonym can change the entire meaning of a sentence or context. Like in the above passage, the word everlasting, is of importance as it shows that these are the final vows being made by the conspirators. Using a synonym instead of this word will lose the forever bonding value of the passage.

Skeeter is from a prominent white family, but she doesn’t quite fit in with people like Hilly. How is she different? Do you fore
GenaCL600 [577]

The help is a novel about african americans working in whitehouseholds written by Kathryn Stockett. There many important characters in this story but now we will focus on Skeeter and Hilly, two white girls from very similar backgrounds but with different personalities. They both were very good friends at school but their personalities and goals crashed from each other. While Hilly was on her initiative of having "color bathrooms" or as Hilly called them herself “It’s called the Home Help Sanitation Initiative- ” , Skeeter was doing some reseacrh to write her book exposing the hard times black women had while working in the whitehousehold.

The stronger Skeeter became, the most difficult it was for Hilly to cover her actions, as she shouted when the book was released “The book is not about Jackson!”. This situation clearly became a problem for their relationship. This turn of events is really interesting taking into consideration the when Skeeter asks Aibeleen “I just … have to ask you. What changed your mind?” Aibileen doesn’t even pause. “Miss Hilly,” she says.

On her first visit to China, Sally was surprised to find that her hosts often did not get straight to the point when communicati
padilas [110]

Answer:

This was because Sally came from a monochronic culture.

Explanation:

In a monochronic culture, the people value time and are also decision-oriented. They know what they want and would talk or do things straight to the point instead of dillydallying.  On the other hand, polychronic cultures like China tend to be more multi- in their sense of time and behavior and even interactions with others.

So, while listeners in monochronic culture want directness in conversations, it is quite the opposite in a polychronic culture. For the latter, creating a friendly environment, getting to know the person, etc. are all aspects of their culture.

Thus, when Sally decided that her hosts are inefficient in their type of communication, that was because her culture differs from that of her hosts.
