Economic sanctions are favoured and imposed by policymakers who decide to lead a foreign country to an extreme situation, at which it is not able to obtain the necessary supply of goods and services from the other country (the one of the policymaker). The most extreme sanction is the embargo that stops the supply of all goods and services from most foreign countries.

Such situation will bring economic losses and force the leaders of the sanctioned country to surrender and to adopt the impositions of the foreign policymaker, who typically represents a country or group of countries who aimed, from the first moment, to change political decisions that had been reached by the sanctioned country.
