Find an equation of a line passing through the point (8,9) and parallel to the line joining the points (2,7) and (1,5).
TiliK225 [7]

Answer:

2x - y - 7 = 0

Step-by-step explanation:

Since the slope of parallel line are same.

So, we can easily use formula,

y - y₁ = m ( x ₋ x₁)

where, (x₁, y₁) = (8, 9)

and m is a slope of line passing through (x₁, y₁).

and since the slope of parallel lines are same, so here we use slope of parallel line for calculation.

and, Slope = m = \dfrac{y_{b}-y_{a}}{x_{b}-x_{a}}

here, (xₐ, yₐ) = (2, 7)

and, (y_{a},y_{b}) = (1, 5 )

⇒ m = \dfrac{5-7}{1-2}

⇒ m = 2

Putting all values above formula. We get,

y - 9 = 2 ( x ₋ 8)

⇒ y - 9 = 2x - 16

⇒ 2x - y - 7 = 0

which is required equation.

my hw write find an equation of the line passing through (-2,3) and (4,-5) I have to write the equation in slope-intercept form
Viefleur [7K]

Answer:

The line passing through the given points is:

y=-\frac{4}{3}x+\frac{1}{3}

in its slope-intercept form

Step-by-step explanation:

Start by finding the slope of the segment that joins the two given points using the slope formula:

slope=\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}

which for our case renders:

slope=\frac{3-(-5)}{-2-4}=\frac{8}{-6} =-\frac{4}{3}

Now we can find the y-intercept by using any one of the given points in the general slope-intercept form of a line with this slope:

y=-\frac{4}{3} x+b\\3=-\frac{4}{3} (-2)+b\\3=\frac{8}{3}+b\\b=3-\frac{8}{3} \\b=\frac{9-8}{3} \\b=\frac{1}{3}

Therefore, the equation of the line becomes:

y=-\frac{4}{3}x+\frac{1}{3}

A bicycle wheel with diameter 16 inches rides over a screw in the street. the screw is on level ground before it punctures the b
weqwewe [10]

The height of the screw = 16 inches.

<h3>How do you determine the number of revolutions in a circle?</h3>

The total distance covered in one revolution will be equal to the perimeter of the wheel. Finally, to find the total number of revolutions, divide the total distance by distance covered in one revolution.

Given that,

Diameter of a bicycle = 16 inches

The distance the bike moves (forward) after the screw punctures the tire = 56π inches

We note that the circumference of the bicycle = π·D = π × 16 = 16π inches

Therefore,

\frac{56\pi }{16\pi } = 3.5

Showing that the bicycle moves three and half complete turns (revolution) where after each complete turn, the screw starts from the bottom of the tire.

The height, h of the screw in the final half turn is given by the relation;

h = A cos(Bx - C) + D

Where

A = Amplitude of the motion = Diameter/2 = 16/2 = 8

P = The period of the motion 2π/B

Bx = The angle described by the motion = Half of one revolution = π = 180°

C = Phase shift = π

D = The mid line = Diameter/2 = 8 inches

Therefore;

h = 8×cos(π - π) + 8 = 16 inches

Hence, After the bike moves forward another 56π inches the height of the screw = 16 inches.

So today i am learning how to subtract Intergers so i want to learn early so can you please tell me what -15 - ( - 8 ) = it woul
gizmo_the_mogwai [7]
1st you have to know that in mathematiques the signs preceding any number are of paramount importance:
1) addition of 2 digits with different signs:
 a) 8 - 3 = 5
 b)-8 + 3 = -5 (if the negative sign is associated with largest digit, then the subtraction will be negative and vice versa
c) addition of 2 digits with both negative sign
- 5 - 8 = -13 .You jus add up both by keeping the negative sign

2) Multiplication: 2 digits with different signs:
a) (8) x (-3) = -24
b) (-8) x (3) = -24 so (-) x (+) or (+) x (-) is ALWAYS negative

3) Multiplication: 2 digits with SAME signs;
a) +8 x +3 = 24
b) (-8) x (-33) =24 so (-) x (-) or (+) x (+) is ALWAYS POSITIVE

4) what applies on multiplication applies also on division (same principle)

5) Now we come to parenthesis: When you have parenthesis, the sign preceding the parenthesis is also of paramount importance:

a) a positive sign preceding a parenthesis doesn't affect the consents if you remove these parenthesis: +(5 + 3y) = 5+3y or 2(5+3y) = 10+6y

b) a NEGATIVE sign preceding a parenthesis DOES affect the consents if you remove these parenthesis:

-2(4x -2y -3) ==> If you remove the parenthesis by multiplying by (-2), all signs inside will change:  the (+) become ( -) and vice versa,. However mind you, if you have a negative
Now let's take your equation: -15 - ( - 8 ) = -15 +8, remember a negative sign preceding any parenthesis will change  all signs inside if you REMOVE the parenthesis: some examples:
a) -15 + 10 -(4-32x -4y)
1st (-15 + 10) = -5 since the largest number is preceded by a NEGATIVE sign
so : -5 - (4-32x -4y) remove the parenthesis -5 -4 + 32x +4y
b) -(-5-8) -(+5+8) ==> -5-8 -5-8 = -10 - 16 => - 26
