Solve the problem below by writing and solving an equation. Be sure to define your variable. There are a total of 122 countries

in Africa, Europe, and North America (as of 2012). Europe has twice as many countries as North America, and Africa has seven more than Europe. How many countries are in each of these three continents?

Answer:

North America has 23 countries

Europe has 46 countries

Africa ha 53 countries

Step-by-step explanation:

Firstly to answer the question, we define variables. Let the number of countries in Africa be A, the number of countries in europe be E while the number of countries in North America be N.

Firstly, we are told there are a total number of 122 countries. Mathematically this means the addition of all the countries will give 122

Hence;

N + A + E = 122. •••••••(i)

Secondly we are made to know that Europe has twice as many countries as North America;

Mathematically l, this means

E = 2N. •••••••••(ii)

Thirdly we know that Africa has 7 more countries than Europe;

This mathematically means that

A = E + 7. •••••••••(iii)

Since E = 2N, A = 2N + 7 ••••••••(iv)

Now what to do to find the answer is to substitute equation ii and iv at the same time into equation i

This will give the following;

N + 2N + 2N + 7 = 122

5N = 122 - 7

5N = 115

N = 115/5

N = 23

We recall

E = 2N = 2(23) = 46

Also

A = 2N + 7 = 46 + 7 = 53

Answer: The number of countries are as follows;

North America = 23, Europe = 46 and Africa = 53

Step-by-step explanation: First of all we identify the variables as algebraic expressions. Hence let North America be N, Europe be E, and Africa be F.

So what we have is;

N + E + F = 122

If Europe has twice as many countries as North America, then Europe can be re-written as 2N. Also if Africa has seven countries more than Europe, then Africa can be re-written as 7 +2N.

Therefore the equation N + E + F = 122 can now be re-written as follows;

N + 2N + 7 + 2N = 122

5N + 7 = 122

Subtract 7 from both sides of the equation

5N = 115

Divide both sides of the equation by 5

N = 23

Hence, North America (N) = 23

Europe (E) = 46

Africa (F) = 53

F(x) = -5x; vertical shrink by a factor of 1/5
tatiyna

In order to vertically stretch a function by a factor k, we have to multiply the function expression by k.

So, in order to stretch the function by a factor of 1/5, we simply have to multiply:

f(x) = -5x \implies g(x) = -5x\cdot\dfrac{1}{5}=-x

So, if we shrink the function -5x by a factor of 1/5, we get the function -x.

Suppose it is known that 8 out of the 20 teams in the sample had a season winning percentage better than 0.500.
Ganezh [65]

Answer:

The 95% confidence interval for the true proportion of all teams that had a season winning percentage better than 0.500 is (0.1853, 0.6147).

Step-by-step explanation:

In a sample with a number n of people surveyed with a probability of a success of \pi, and a confidence interval 1-\alpha, we have the following confidence interval of proportions.

\pi \pm z\sqrt{\frac{\pi(1-\pi)}{n}}

In which

Z is the zscore that has a pvalue of 1 - \frac{\alpha}{2}.

For this problem, we have that:

8 out of the 20 teams in the sample had a season winning percentage better than 0.500. This means that n = 20, \pi = \frac{8}{20} = 0.4.

95% confidence interval

So \alpha = 0.05, z is the value of Z that has a pvalue of 1 - \frac{0.05}{2} = 0.975, so Z = 1.96.

The lower limit of this interval is:

\pi - z\sqrt{\frac{\pi(1-\pi)}{n}} = 0.4 - 1.96\sqrt{\frac{0.6*0.4}{20}} = 0.1853

The upper limit of this interval is:

\pi + z\sqrt{\frac{\pi(1-\pi)}{n}} = 0.4 + 1.96\sqrt{\frac{0.6*0.4}{20}} = 0.6147

The 95% confidence interval for the true proportion of all teams that had a season winning percentage better than 0.500 is (0.1853, 0.6147).

ElenaW [278]

Answer:

B. -2

Step-by-step explanation:

Slope (m) =

ΔY

ΔX

-2

1

= -2

θ =

arctan( ΔY ) + 360°

ΔX

= 296.56505117708°

ΔX = 3 – 0 = 3

ΔY = -2 – 4 = -6

Distance (d) = √ΔX2 + ΔY2 = √45 = 6.7082039324994

Answer:

9

Step-by-step explanation:

Both sides are going to be exactly the same angle. So if its 35° on the right it will be 35° on the left also.

(3x + 8)

(3 \times 9 + 8)

9 goes into where X was

3 \times 9 = 27

27 + 8 = 35

(3 \times 9 + 8 ) = 35
