Answer:

6

Step-by-step explanation:

#1: 4x - 8 = 16 (You want to remove -8)

#2: 4x = 24 (In order to remove -8 you need to cancel it out, add 8 to -8, also add 8 to 16)

#3: 4x = 24 (Now you need to get the x by itself, divide 4x by 4 to only get x and also divide 24 by 4)

#4: x = 6

Rule of Thumb: If you do something to one side, to it to the other :)

Please help me answer this using systems of equations with elimination.
Triss [41]
-5x+13y=-7
5x+4y=24
add the equation to eliminate x:
13y+4y=-7+24
17y=17
solve for y:
17/17y=17/17
y=1
then plug in y into any equation to solve for x:
-5x+13y=-7, y=1
-5x+(13*1)=-7
-5x+13-13=-7-13
-5x=-20
-5/-5x=-20/-5
x=4
the answers are x=4, y=1

Find the coordinates of the midpoint of HX. H(5.5, -4.75) and X(3.75, -2.75)
MAXImum [283]

( 4.625, - 3.75 )

the midpoint of (x₁, y₁ ) and (x₂, y₂ ) is

[\frac{1}{2}(x₁ + x₂ ), \frac{1}{2}(y₁ + y₂ ) ]

here (x₁, y₁ ) = (5.5, - 4.75 ) and (x₂, y₂ ) = (3.75, - 2.75 )

[ \frac{1}{2}(5.5 + 3.75 ), \frac{1}{2}(- 4.75 - 2.75 ) ]

= (4.625, - 3.75 ) ← midpoint of HX
