Answer: The term ''blank slate'', or tabula rasa, encompasses two ideas in psychology.

Explanation:

  1. The first meaning of this term is that people are born with a potential to become anything or anyone. According to this theory, our development largely depends on our upbringing and experience, rather than on genetics.
  2. The second meaning refers to a technique in psychoanalysis that was very popular in the past. If the therapist uses this technique, he/she does not reveal any personal information to a patient. He/she becomes a ''blank slate'', thus leaving space for the client to explore his/her own desires, opinions, needs and problems during the therapy.
