Let
x-------------> amount added <span>to each side
</span>A-------------> area increased----------> 84 ft²

we know that
A=(10+x)*(5+x)=84-----------> 10*5+10*x+5*x+x²
50+15x+x²=84----------> x²+15x-34=0
<span>solving the second order equation
</span>x1=-17
x2=2

 the answer is x=2 ft

Which function is the inverse of f(x)=b^x
max2010maxim [7]

Here we are given the function:

f(x)=b^{x}

Steps to find inverse are :

Step 1:

First replace f(x) by y.

y=b^{x}

Step 2:

Replace every  x with a  y and replace every  y with an  x.

x=b^{y}

Step 3:

Solve the equation from step 2 for y.

x=b^{y}

Taking log on both sides:

logx=log(b^{y})

logx=ylogb

y=\frac{logx}{logb}

Answer:

Inverse function is :

y=\frac{logx}{logb}

Suppose the demand for a certain item is given by:
Marysya12 [62]

Answer:

a. D'(p) = -10p - 6

b. There is a decrease of 96 units of demand for each dollar increase

Step-by-step explanation:

The demand function is:

D(p) = - 5p^2-6p+400

(a) The derivate of the demand function with respect to price gives us the rate of change of demand:

\frac{dD(p)}{dp}=D'(p) = -10p-6

(b) When p = $9, the rate of change of demand is:

D'(9) = -10*9-6\\D'(9) = -96\ \frac{units}{\$}

This means that, when p = $9,  there is a decrease of 96 units of demand for each dollar increase.

The graph that represents possible functions is shown in the diagram below. Point C shows the point on y-axis where f(x) and g(x) crosses. The result should be interpreted by the level of steepness of each slope

g(x) has a steeper gradient than f(x) and this indicates steeper fee rise for producing the T-shirt. So if Marissa is to choose the better value for her money to produce T-shirt, she should choose the function f(x) providing there are no other factors to consider other than prices.
