Answer:

A). 30 miles

B). 3 hours 0 minutes 0 seconds

Step-by-step explanation:

Let's assume that the distance is y and the time to be x

Speed= distance/time

If the bird traveled at a speed of 20mph,it will be

20 = y/x

Y = 20x______ equation 1

And on the Bird's return it took it flew at a speed 4 miles per hour slower and had 6 miles left to cover after x hours

20 - 4 = (y - 6)/x

16 = (y - 6) /x_____ equation 2

From equation 1 which is y = 20x,substitute into equation 2

16 = (20x - 6)/x

Cross multiply the above and we have

16x = 20x - 6

Collect like terms

20x - 16x = 6

4x = 6

X = 6/4

X = 3/2 or 1½ hours or 1 hour 30 minutes for the trip away from the nest

Substitute in equation 1 and we have

20x = y

20 × 1½ =y

Y = 60/2

Y = 30 miles is the distance from the nest to the birds destination prior to it's return

The entire trip took 3 hours since we have to calculate the "going and coming back" of the bird.

And the distance is 60 miles.

Runner A is initially 6.0 km west of a flagpole and is running with a constant velocity of 3.0 km/h due east. Runner B is initia
ArbitrLikvidat [17]

Answer:

The distance of the two runners from the flagpole is 0.0882 km

Step-by-step explanation:

We are going to use the minus sign when the runner is on the west and the plus sign when the runner is on the east.

Then, Taking into account  the runner A is 6 km west and is running with a constant velocity of 3 Km/h east, the distance of the runner A from the flagpole is given by the following equation:

Xa = -6 Km + (3 Km/h)* t

Where Xa is the position of the runner A from the flagpole and t is the time in hours.

At the same way the distance of the runner B, Xb, from the flagpole is given by the following equation:

Xb = 7.4 Km - (3.8 Km/h)*t

Then, the two runners cross their path when Xa is equal to Xb, so if we solve this equation for t, we get:

              Xa = Xb

     -6 + (3*t) =  7.4 - (3.8*t)

(3.8*t) + (3*t) = 7.4 + 6

         (6.8*t) = 13.4

                  t = 13.4/6.8

                  t = 1.9706

Therefore, at time t equal to 1.9706 hours, both runners cross their path. The distance of the two runners from the flagpole can be calculated replacing the value of t in equation for Xa or in equation for Xb as:

Xa = -6 Km + (3 Km/h)* t

Xa = -6 Km + (3 Km/h)*(1.9706 h)

Xa = -0.0882 Km

That means that both runners are 0.0882 Km west of a flagpole.

Substitution:(x=2y) (y=x-2)
GaryK [48]

Answer:

2=y

4=x

Step-by-step explanation:

x=2y

y=2y-2

add 2 to both sides

2+y=2y

subtract y from both sides

2=1y

2=y

At a sale on winter clothing, Cody bought two pairs of gloves and four hats for $38. Tori bought three pairs of gloves and five
igor_vitrenko [27]

Answer: The price for the gloves were $5 each and the price of the hats were $7 each.

Step-by-step explanation:

2g + 4h = 38    solve by elimination

3g  + 5h = 50

-3(2g + 4h) = 38(-3)           -6g -12h=  -114

2 (3g + 5h)= 50(2)                 6g + 10h =100

                                             0 + -2h= -14

                                                      h= 7

-6g -12(7)=-114

-6g -84 = -114

      + 84    +84

-6g =-30

g= 5
