Let A be an mxn matrix. Consider the statement. "For each b in Rm, the equation Ax b has a solution." Because of a fundamental t

heorem about such matrix equations, this statement is equivalent to what other statements? Choose all that apply. A. The rows of A span Rn. B. Each b in Rm is a linear combination of the columns of A C. The columns of A span R D. The matrix A has a pivot position in each column. E. The matrix A has a pivot position in each row.

Answer:  The correct answer is :  B. Each b in Rm is a linear combination of the columns of A

C. The columns of A span R

 E. The matrix A has a pivot position in each row.

Step-by-step explanation:   These conditions correspond to Theorem 4: A square matrix A is invertible, yes and only if the det A ≠ 0

1. If the matrix is not full range, there are infinite solutions

2. Each row must have at least one pivot so that it has a solution

3. When a row is not linearly independent, the matrix is not full range and its determinant is zero.

4. For each b in Rm the equation Ax = b has a solution

Solve the inequalty 2 2/5 < b-8/15
mr_godi [17]

Answer:

b>44

Step-by-step explanation:

12/5<b-8/15

switch sides b-8/15>12/5

multiply both sides by 15  15(b-8)/15>12*15/5

simplify b-8>36

add 8 to both sides b-8+8>36+8

simplify

b>44

Using the function below, evaluate f(-2). *<br> 2 points<br> f(x) = 3x? - 5x - 2
monitta
Okay so I'm guessing that they are two different formulas the f(x)= 3x and the f(x)= -5x-2. If that's is true then you would just have to plug in -2 to the x's. So then it would be f(x)= 3(-2) which if you solve it would give you f(x)= -6 and for the second one it would be f(x)= -5(-2)-2 so then you would solve for it and get f(x)= 8.

Why can you use cross products to solve the proportion StartFraction 18 over 5 EndFraction = StartFraction x over 100 EndFractio

Answer:

  it is application of the multiplication property of equality

Step-by-step explanation:

You can use "cross products" to solve any proportion. What looks like a "cross product" is just application of the multiplication property of equality. That property says the variable value is unchanged if both sides of the equation are multiplied by the same value.

For your fraction, the "cross product" is what you get when you multiply both sides of the equation by 500.

  \dfrac{18}{5}=\dfrac{x}{100}\qquad\text{given}\\\\\dfrac{18\cdot5\cdot100}{5}=\dfrac{x\cdot5\cdot100}{100}\qquad\text{multiply by $5\cdot100$}\\\\18\cdot100=5\cdot x\qquad\text{cancel common factors; looks like cross product}

__

Note that the next step here is to divide by the x-coefficient, the 5 that was in the left-side denominator.

  \dfrac{18\cdot100}{5}=x\qquad\text{divide by 5}

Please also note that this is exactly the same result you would get by multiplying the original equation by the original denominator of x.
