Cuneiform allowed the Mesopotamian rulers to set up a writing system because it allowed them to communicate orders over long distances. They were also able to write detailed laws to help govern the people.
During the Gilded Age, when factory workers were injured at work, they didn't receive anything. Their families would often starve to death, because they weren't making money to buy food.
