Answer - D
Gametes always have half the number of chromosomes compared to the somatic cells, hence an unfertilized egg would have half the chromosomes from the mother, and a fertilized egg will contain diploid number of chromosomes. Half of them from inherited from each of the two parents.

Answer:

D

Explanation:

The fertilized egg has 46 chromosomes since it is fertilized by the sperm which makes 23 + 23= 46 so, it is fertilized by both parents. HINT: The sperm is produced in the uterus by the father. An unfertilized egg has 23 chromosomes since it is not fertilized by it's father. Therefore, it is only fertilized by it's mother since the mother produces the egg through the ovaries.
