Mousterian tradition <u>was the technique evolved by Neanderthal in Europe and Southwestern Asia. This stone making technique marked the progress from hand axes to the hafted tools. These specialized flake tools became common in this tradition. These flake tools were made using the Levallois technique.</u>
Flakes were the thinly knapped sheets of the stones. The stones were knapped off a core to make thin sheets which were called flakes.
