Answer:For instance, I worked hard for over a year to learn to do a standing backflip

Attempting to use luck to do a standing backflip without the hard work it takes to prepare for doing one would be foolish and dangerous.

1. The speaker is most likely a common man living in a town in Victoria. The fact I understand from the text is that, the speaker is a patriotic person. He is so sad about the destruction caused after, probably a war.

2. In my Opinion, this poem is trying to give a vivid picture of a place after a war, probably.

3. The speaker's tone towards the city is a pity as well as a humorous tone. His reference "Here are broken fingerbones of clay pipes" is a pitiful statement and his words "and mud is thick as meat".

4. I think the poem literally comes between the year 1990 - 1999. This is proved when he refers "air sweet as rust" as there were wars during that time in major parts of Asia.

5. The words mud is thick as meat, seed stained black, inner city's chalk, broken fingerbones of clay piles etc are some of the main humorous as well as unimaginable quotes made by the speaker in order to say about his feelings of the ruined city.

Hope it helps you...

vesna_86 [32]
The mood portrayed in John Muir's "The Calypso Borealis" can be described as first very gloomy and disparate and then to joyous and relief. At first, the narrator is very discouraged because he cannot find the Calypso flower that he wants. But when he finds it, he seems very joyous and as the passage says, he "cries for joy". This means that he had been waiting and searching for a long time. Muir also uses dramatic terms like choosing to place the Calypso as a lonely flower in the middle of a bog.

Hope this helps :)

How is guilt presented in Macbeth
solniwko [45]
In Shakespeare's Macbeth, guilt is represented by the presence or symbol of blood. Macbeth, after going back and forth on whether or not to kill Duncan, eventually decides to do it. Very quickly after his murder, Macbeth feels guilty, especially when he looks down at his hands. He questions whether or not he will ever be able to wash away the blood (guilt). "Will all great Neptune's ocean wash this blood/Clean from my hand? Interestingly, Lady Macbeth feels no such guilt or remorse... at first. Her guilt is also symbolized through her visions of blood on her hands and clothes. "Our, ------- spot!" She keeps imagining blood on her hands and her guilt is driving her crazy. "Yet who would have thought the old man to have had so much blood in him." While Lady Macbeth's guilt increases as the play progresses, Macbeth's gets less and less. It must be since he basically begins killing anybody that stands in his way. He even kills his own friend Banquo. Even then, though, the blood/guilt motif is set before the reader again with the line "blood will have blood."
