Topic: What does it mean to be an American?

Intro: People tend to think being American is being is just being free, when in reality, it is way more than that. We are not just born free, we have to fight for freedom. Being an American means you fight for who you are, you write your own story, you define yourself.

Conclusion: Being an American takes courage, sacrifice, and willingness. You fight for what you want and you don't let anyone define you, only you can, only then can you truly be free.

Unless you aren't American, but I imagine this is for a class taught in the US. What do you think it means to be an American? For a lot of people it's about the freedom of expression and to do anything they could think of (as long as it's legal, that is) without being mandated by the government. There's a reason it's called the land of the free, after all.

Also, bring in topics like the American Dream. How has our nation's dream differed and how has it shaped us into the country it is today?
