Biology

The 'ground substance' of extracellular matrix is an amorphous gelatinous material. It is transparent, colourless, and fills the spaces between fibres and cells. It actually consists of large molecules called glycosoaminoglycans (GAGs) which link together to form even larger molecules called proteoglycans. These molecules are very good at absorbing water, rather like a sponge, such that 90% of the extracellular matrix is made up of water. This means that the ECM is very good at resisting compressive forces.

List 2 types of forces acting on a moving object and explain how each force acts on the moving object
tatuchka [14]

Answers and Explanation:

- Gravity; gravity is pulling the object down. Depending on whether the object is moving uphill or downhill, gravity can slow down or speed it up, respectively.

- Friction; this is the force that appears from contact between two surfaces. In this case, it could be the object and the floor. Friction causes resistance between the two, which can slow down the object.

Hope this helps!
