The correct answer is C. The thesis statement and author’s purpose are clear

Explanation:

In an essay and any other texts, the introduction refers to the main paragraphs or paragraphs in a text written by the author with the purpose to engage readers, present the general topic and the main points that a paper would develop. Because of this, in most effective introductions especially those of essays and argumentative papers the author presents a hook or statement that engages the reader; then introduces the general topic and finally states the thesis statement and the purpose of the paper usually by stating them explicitly and with precise and clear words, which allows the reader to know the content and purpose of the essay. This means the component of an effective introduction is that the thesis statement and the author's purpose are clear.

Question:

According to the article, the author believes_______

Options:

  • E-books are better than print books.
  • E-books and print books are both ecologically friendly.
  • Print books are better than e-books.
  • E-books and print books both have advantages and disadvantages, so most readers use both.

Article:

So now you know what an e-reader is. But you still may be wondering why they put printed books to shame. E-readers are superior to printed books because they save space, are environmentally friendly, and provide helpful reading tips and tools that printed books do not.

E-readers are superior to printed books because they save space. The average e-reader can store thousands of digital books, providing a veritable library at your fingertips. What is more, being the size and weight of a thin hardback, the e-reader itself is relatively petite. It is easy to hold and can fit in a pocketbook or briefcase easily. This makes handling ponderous behemoths such as War and Peace, Anna Karenina, and Les Misérables a breeze. Perhaps the only drawback to the space-saving aspect of an e-reader is that it requires you to find new things to put on your shelves.

What external conflict do daisy and tom face after myrtle is killed?
CaHeK987 [17]
Daisy was driving when Myrtle was killed.  She killed Myrtle but Gatsby is willing to take the blame and the consequences in order to protect Daisy.  Daisy only wants to save her own skin.  She is selfish and self-centered and Tom is only concerned with maintaining his status in the elite world of the rich and wants nothing to do with scandal.  The external conflict would be the law.  Daisy will not confess to the hit and run she committed and Tom would not give up his standing in the community to do the honest thing and go to the police with the truth.  Daisy and Tom are content with allowing Gatsby to take the blame since it is presumed by some, namely Myrtle's husband, that Gatsby was driving the car at the time of Myrtle's death.  Unfortunately for Gatsby, Myrtle's husband arrived before the police and killed him.  Both Daisy and Tom are without conscience or a moral compass.  They get out of town and never even attend Gatsby's funeral.  Kind of hard to face a corpse when you are the reason they are dead.

Read this passage from a message to a new friend:
saw5 [17]

Answer: A. Pathos and logos

In this passage, the speaker uses both pathos, which is an appeal to emotion, and logos, which refers to an appeal based on logic. She first states that because she does not have a license, she cannot drive. This is a logical argument. Afterwards, she states that it is "totally embarrasing" to be driven to the party by her father. In this case, the speaker makes an appeal to pathos, or to emotions.
