Answer:

B. Bones provide structure and support to the body, while muscles move the bones.

Explanation:

Let's try to eliminate choices.

A: "Muscles provide structure and support to the body, while bones move the muscles."

Muscles actually aren't the ones that provide support for our body; it's the bones and our skeletons that do that. So, this is wrong.

B: "Bones provide structure and support to the body, while muscles move the bones."

Bones do, in fact, provide structure to our bodies, and muscles are the ones that attach to the bones through tendons and help move them. So, B is correct.

C: "Bones send signals to the body, and muscles are responsible for movement."

While it's true that muscles are responsible for movement, bones do not send signals to the body; that's the nervous system's job. C is wrong.

D: "Muscles send signals to the body, and bones are responsible for movement."

Again, muscles don't send signals; neurons do. D is wrong.

The answer is B.

All of the following could prevent a genetic trait from becoming an adaptation except:
poizon [28]

Answer:

D) a reproductive strategy that includes having a large number of offspring.

Explanation:

If a reproductive strategy is used and large number of offsprings are produced, this will mean that there will be more chances for the genetic trait to be seen in the offsprings. Hence, option D, is the only option which illustrates how a genetic trait will occur more in the offsprings.

Other options , like option A, show how a genetic trait will fail to pass from the parent to the offspring. When an individual carrying a certain trait fails to reproduce, he cannot transfer the trait as the individual did not produce any children.

In his work with pneumonia-causing bacteria and mice, Griffith found that the protein coat from pathogenic cells was able to tra
nadya68 [22]

1. The correct answer is: some substance from pathogenic cells was transferred to nonpathogenic cells, making them pathogenic

Griffith in his experiment used two related strains of bacteria (Streptococcus pneumonia), known as R and S and mice, trying to develop a vaccine against pneumonia.

• R strain-formed nonvirulent, rough-edged colonies

• S strain- rounded and smooth colonies, with sugar protection coat, virulent

Mice that were injected with S strain developed pneumonia and died. But, when mice were injected with heat-killed S strain it did not cause disease in mice. The next part of experiment is the injection of combined harmless R bacteria with harmless heat-killed S bacteria. The result was that the mouse developed pnenumonia and in blood sample from the dead mouse, living S bacteria were found. From his experiment, Griffith concluded that injected together, R strain and S strain bacteria most likely “communicate”. The R-strain bacteria took "transforming principle" (we know today that this is genetic material DNA) from the heat-killed S bacteria which allowed them to "transform" into virulent bacteria.

2. The correct answer is: DNA polymerase can join new nucleotides only to the 3’ end of a preexisting strand.

DNA replication (or the synthesis of DNA) begins when the helicase unfolds the double-stranded DNA. The forked structure is formed and DNA synthesis by the DNA polymerase can start. DNA polymerase is an enzyme that works only in one direction-5' to 3' (new nucleotides are added only to the 3’ end), so it replicates the leading strand continuously. On the other hand, lagging-strand replication is discontinuous( Okazaki fragments are formed and later linked together).

3. The correct answer is A + G = C + T

This is according to Chargaff's rule which states that DNA should have a 1:1 ratio of pyrimidine and purine bases (the amount of guanine should be equal to cytosine and the same thing with adenine and thymine).

4. The correct answer is: depends on the action of DNA polymerase.

Elongation is the second stage of DNA replication process (the first one is initiation and the third one is termination). The main enzyme during this phase is DNA polymerase, which adds nucleotides on newly synthesized polynucleotide strand. . DNA polymerase is an enzyme that works only in one direction-5' to 3' (new nucleotides are added only to the 3’ end). Only the nucleotide that is complementary to the template nucleotide can be added to new strand.

In order to improve patient relations, a family practitioner should ____
Helen [10]
In the field of medicine we have a short adage that goes, "To cure sometimes, to treat often, to comfort always." Some say it was Hippocrates himself who said this. With that in mind, doctors should always have the patient's welfare in mind always. To improve relations with the patient, the doctor must do a lot of things to show respect. One of them includes simply sitting on a chair with an open stance and leaning slightly forward at an angle while the patient is talking to show that you are interested in what he or she has to say. Never hold the door knob while the patient is still talking as this is a sign that you want him to leave as soon as possible. Never look at far away things, like paintings on the wall or a clock, while the patient is talking because this is another sign of disinterest. And always allow the patient to express his or her self fully without interruption. There are more ways to improve patient relations but these are some good pointers to begin with.
