In my opinion I think this quote means that we should respect our contumely and love it and be proud of who we are but we should never fall under the government because sometimes they can take over our lives. For example from the Roman civilization (my guess) the government had caste systems which the citizens fell a prey to and divided themselves among the people. Sometimes the government can decivie your citizens. Hope this helps I got some of my evidence from Roman history and others if you need more evidence comment and I can help. If helped mark me the brainiest!!
I had the same question on a paper
The framers of the US Constitution were worried about keeping a balance between the power of the presidency and the power of the other branches of the federal government.
This is evident from the fact that the Constitution establishes a system of checks and balances. This ensures that the legislative and judicial branch have the ability to regulate the presidents power. This fear of a strong central leader stemmed from America's experience as part of the British Empire. After seeing how King George III abused his power, the framers wanted to make sure that this would not happen again.
The history of Kansas, argued historian Carl L. Becker a century ago, reflects American ideals. He wrote: ... When the area was opened to settlement by the Kansas–Nebraska Act of 1854 it became a battlefield that helped cause the American Civil War. Settlers from North and South came in order to vote slavery down or up.
