kupik [55]

Answer:

This question is incomplete, meanwhile, judging by the context it is referring to the East India Company and its approaches it was taking regarding the education in India.

Being the major institute in British colonization of India, East India Company saw its mission not only in trade and revenues, but also in humanitarian spectrum. In particular, in the matters of the education.

While many key figures in the Company were in favor of promotion of Western education and teaching of English language, other figures such as William Jones (28 September 1746 – 27 April 1794) and scholar Henry Thomas Colebrooke (15 June 1765 – 10 March 1837) thought that it is necessary to understand India in order to rule over it effectively. They wanted to introduce study of sanskrit and the sacred texts. In the result, in 1791 the Hindu College was established in Benaras.
