The answer seems to be B.
He cannot defend himself from the circumstances that lead him from California to Alaska. Alaska is a barren landscape that forces him after many trials to go back to the original life a dog is meant to live.

D is not the best answer because California and Alaska are symbols of two different lifestyles a dog would live. The could be any place that is warm and sunny to start with (like Arizona) and harsh and cold like the Yukon.

C is the second best answer, but it is just a fact. B is a result of the hardship.

A is true, but it is like saying I live in a house because I don't like living outside when it's 30 below. A says nothing about what resulted for being in one place and going somewhere else.

Why do people have a natural desire to form cliques (social groups) and divide into smaller segments or
In-s [12.5K]

Answer: As humans, we have a natural want, an urge if you will, to be near people. We want to fit in somewhere, to be told you belong. It's acceptance, and it's normal, being alone without human interaction is more of an unnatural want, and is usually brought on by past experience.
