If I wanted to name a particular point using a fraction strip, say 0.5 on the number line, I would say 5/10(count 5 numbers till 0.5 divided by total count of numbers).

0.5 would therefore be half/mid point between 0 and 1

If I wanted to get an equivalent fraction for this, I could reduce 5/10 to its lowest terms to get 1/2 which has same value(half) but different numerator and denominator.

Equivalent fractions have different numerators and denominators but are the same in value, example 2/4, 50/100, 9/18 etc are all the same with 5/10 or 1/2 above
