Explanation: The witch hunt in Salem gave place to executions and imprisonment of hundreds of people. They were accused of witchcraft for any unusual behavior and were not allowed to have a proper legal assessment in court. As a consequence,  the verdicts were set unfairly by the judges. Time after, the House Un-American Activities Committee started investigating communist activity, saying it was “witch hunt.” as well. Therefore, anyone who had been rumored to be involved in communism would be persecuted.
