The inner dimensions of an in-ground swimming pool are: width = 13.0ft, length = 18.0 ft, and depth = 9.0ft. the pool walls and

the bottom are uniformly 1.0 ft thick and made of concrete. what is the total concrete surface area of the pool in units of ft2?

In swimming pool, the area would be only 5 pieces of rectangles since the top would be open. But if each area needs 1ft thick of concrete, then the length and width will be increased 2ft, but height only increased 1 ft. Make it length=20ft, width= 15ft, height= 10ft
Then to find the swimming pool area that need to be put some concrete the formula is:

Swimming pool area= length x width+ 2(length x height) + 2 (width x height)
Swimming pool area= 20ft x 15ft+ 2(20ft x 10ft) + 2( 15ft x 10ft)= 300ftft^{2} + 600ft^{2} + 300ft^{2}= 1200 ft^{2}

The swimming pool is in the shape of a open top rectangular prism. The concrete boundary of the swimming pool is in the shape of rectangular prism slabs.

The surface area of the interior sides of the swimming pool is given by 2(13 x 9)ft + 2(18 x 9)ft = 234ft + 324ft = 558ft^2

The surface area of the interior bottom of the swimming pool is given by 13 x 18 = 234ft^2.

The surface area of the exterior sides of the swimming pool is given by 2(15 x 10)ft + 2(20 x 10)ft = 300ft + 400ft = 700ft^2

The surface area of the exterior bottom of the swimming pool is given by 15 x 20 = 300ft^2.

The surface area of the top thickness of the swimming pool is given by 2(1 x 14) + 2(1 x 19) = 28 + 38 = 66ft^2

Therefore, total surface area = 558 + 234 + 700 + 300 + 66 = 1,858 ft^2.

Terence baked 6 mango pudding and shared it equally with children. Each child received 5/6 of the pudding. a) How many children
Artyom0805 [142]
Well, we would first have to write an equation. Let's start with letter (a). We will put in the variable (x) for the number of children there were, because we don't know how many there were. So... IF we knew how many children there were, what would we do to find out how much pie each child got? Of course, we would divide! Soooo....
6 (mangos) divided by x (the number of children) = 5/6
Now, we solve for x!

So, our first step in the equation 6/x=5/6 would be to multiply, because multiplication is the opposite of division! So, just let me see if I can work this.....
6/x(×)5/6
So, we now can cross multiply and get...
5x=36 (Because 5 time x is 5x and 6 times 6 is 36)
Now, we divide!
So, 5x/5 cancels out and we get just plain little x. 36/5 gives us.....
Improper Fraction Form: 36
Mixed Number Form: 7 1/5
Decimal Form: 7.2

And that's your answer! I really hope this helps! ^_^

Are the following systems equivalent? How do you know?
Nadya [2.5K]

Answer:

No, they are not equivalent

Step-by-step explanation:

Are the following systems equivalent? How do you know?

For the equation;

2x+y= -4 ... 1

7x+7y=0 ... 2

Let us find the solution of the equation;

From 1;

y = 4 - 2x

Susbtitutw into 2;

7x + 7(4-2x) = 0

7x + 28 - 14x = 0

-7x + 28 = 0

7x = 28

x = 28/7

x = 4

Recall that y = 4-2x

y = 4 - 2(4)

y = 4 - 8

y = -4

The solution is (4, -4)

For the other equations;

5x+6y= 4 ... 1 * 1

4x+2y= -4 ..... 2 * 3

___________________

5x+6y= 4

12x+6y= -12

Subtract

5x-12x = 4 + 12

-7x = 16

x = -16/7

Since the solutions to both simultaneous equations are different, hence the systems of equations are not equivalent.
