A generator is to be driven by a small Pelton wheel with a head of 91.5m at inlet to the nozzle and discharge of 0.04m^3/s. The

wheel rotates at 720rpm a n d the velocity coefficient of the nnozzle is 0.98. If the efficiency of the wheel (based on the energy available at entry to the nozzle) is 80 per cent and the ratio of bucket speed to jet speed is0.46, determine the wheel-to-.jet-di meter ratio at the centre-line of the buckets, and the speed of the wheel. What is the dimensionless power specific speed of the wheel?

Answer:

ratio = 412

speed of wheel = 13.63

Explanation:

given data

head h = 91.5 m

discharge Q = 0.04 m³/s

wheel rotates N = 720 rpm

velocity coefficient Cv = 0.98

efficiency of the wheel η = 80 %

ratio of bucket speed to jet speed \frac{u}{v} = 0.46

to find out

wheel to jet diameter ratio and power specific speed of the wheel

solution

we know that discharge = area × velocity .............1

here velocity = Cv√(2gh)

velocity = 0.98√(2×9.81×91.5) = 41.52 m/s

and area = \frac{\pi }{4} d^2

so from equation 1

0.04 = \frac{\pi }{4} d^2 ×  41.52

d = 0.00123 m = 1.23 mm

we know bucket speed to jet speed = 0.46

so bucket speed u = 0.46 v

bucket speed u = 0.46 × 41.52 = 19.1 m/s

and bucket speed = \frac{\pi D N}{60}

so 19.1 = \frac{\pi D 720}{60}

so D = 0.506 m = 506.62 mm

so ratio is \frac{D}{d} = \frac{506.62}{1.23}

ratio = 412

and

we know efficiency = \frac{outputpower}{inputpower}

0.80 × ρQgh = output power

power output = 0.80 ×1000×0.04×9.81×91.5

power output P = 28.72 kW

so

speed of wheel is

speed of wheel = \frac{N\sqrt{P} }{h^{5/4}}

speed of wheel = \frac{720\sqrt{28.72} }{91.5^{5/4}}

speed of wheel = 13.63

viktelen [127]

Answer:

\theta_1=15^o\\\theta_2=75^o

Explanation:

<u>Projectile Motion</u>

In projectile motion, there are two separate components of the acceleration, velocity and displacement. The horizontal component has zero acceleration (assuming no friction), and the acceleration in the vertical direction is always the acceleration of gravity. The basic formulas are shown below:

V_x=V_{ox}=V_ocos\theta

Where \theta is the angle of launch respect to the positive horizontal direction and Vo is the initial speed.

V_y=V_{oy}-gt=V_osin\theta-gt

The  horizontal and vertical distances are, respectively:

x=V_{o}cos\theta t

\displaystyle y=y_o+V_{o}sin\theta t-\frac{gt^2}{2}

The total flight time can be found as that when y = 0, i.e. when the object comes back to ground (or launch) level. From the above equation we find

\displaystyle t_f=\frac{2V_osin\theta}{g}

Using this time in the horizontal distance, we find the Range or maximum horizontal distance:

\displaystyle R=\frac{V_o^2sin2\theta}{g}

Let's solve for \theta

\displaystyle sin2\theta=\frac{R.g}{V_o^2}

This is the general expression to determine the angles at which the projectile can be launched to hit the target. Recall the angle can have to values for fixed positive values of its sine:

\displaystyle \theta_1=\frac{asin\left(\frac{R.g}{V_o^2}\right)}{2}

\displaystyle \theta_2=\frac{180^o-asin\left(\frac{R.g}{V_o^2}\right)}{2}

Or equivalently:

\theta_2=90^o-\theta_1

Given Vo=37 m/s and R=70 m

\displaystyle \theta_1=\frac{asin\left(\frac{70\times 9.8}{37^2}\right)}{2}

\theta_1=15^o

And

\theta_2=90^o-15^o=75^o

Do a summary what happen to titanic in the aspect of material(body) and the ductile brittle temperature (DBT) of the material.
vodka [1.7K]

Explanation:

A ductile material can convert into brittle material due to following reasons

1.At very low temperature

2.Due to presence of notch

In titanic ,the base of ship strike to the large ice cube and lower part of titanic ship material was made of steel .We know that steel is ductile material and when steel came with very low temperature of ice due to this ductile material converted in to brittle material and titanic ship failed.Brittle material does not show any indication before failure.
