First one- Lao Zi describes the Dao as being the source of everything and the natural way of the universe; in a way something extremely powerful and present in all things, but at the same time it's pacific or passive. Since Lao Zi says that people have free will and are able to act upon their desires, anything good or bad that happens to them (in consequence for their actions) does so because they may, or may not, deviate from this unseen path of harmony.

Second one- Confucius discusses mainly proper behavior and ideals, this concept being called ren in the Analects. He describes this as an altruistic way of living, in which an individual may try to help elevate the lives from those around them, believing that by doing so he is in fact helping himself.

Third one- The religion of the ancient Chinese was based on the worship, of deities or gods, that represented aspects of nature or social live and was also based on the respect for the spirit of one's ancestors. Believing that both the spirit and the body of a deceased could haunt the living, the Chinese of the time had rituals that sought to help their dead relatives to have a happy afterlife.
