When we’re young, some of us make goals about what we want to be, making sure we study for that exam, who our friends are, etc. but when we’re old, we focus more on retirement, making sure we pay off rent/bills, etc. This can show how not only our goals change, but how we also change as a person as well.
Yes I think he actually sleeps there because throughout the whole poem he talks about how he loves this girl an how beautiful she is. Also by the other Edgar Allen Poe poems and stories I've read by him he seems to talk about death and is very literal about it.
