<span>The social criticism in Upton Sinclair's The Jungle was a response to the working conditions faced by immigrants.
Immigrants often have a difficult time getting accustomed to their new country and its culture, and the jobs are no different. Usually, the conditions they have to work under are quite difficult, which Sinclair is trying to convey in his work.

bagirrra123 [75]

Answer:

Manufacturing

Explanation:

Before the Civil War, the South had an economy based on agriculture and slave labor. They focused on crops such as silk, cotton, food crops and cash crops and made a lot of money from them. They were also heavily involved in slave labour due to their heavy reliance on labor for their farmlands.

However the North was heavily reliant on manufacturing. This helped the North in the war as they manufactured weapons and other equipments for their use.

What do you think the Puritans would think of modern American values?
Naya [18.7K]

The Puritans main value was religion. They lived their entire lives focused on doing good in God's eyes. They also highly valued hard work and family, though divorce was more common than in Europe. Puritans would most likely be taken aback by how little God has to do with everyday things. Not saying God does not have a heavy presence in Modern America, but Puritans' world revolved around God. I believe Puritans would also not think to kindly of America's "work hard relax harder" mindset. Puritans thought you could never work too much, whereas many Americans do not carry that same way of mind.
