Edwards became known widely for his fiery sermon "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God," which implored parishioners to embrace the teachings of Jesus Christ before they were banished to hell as nonbelievers. His sermons and writings embraced the idea of free will, along with a firm confidence in God's righteousness. During the fiery Great Awakening, Edwards became a lighting rod for a movement that became a widespread religious revival.

During Reconstruction who took over Southern state governments? Why would this be troubling to Republicans in Congress
Elden [556K]

Answer:

During the Reconstruction period of 1865–1877, federal law provided civil rights protection in the U.S. South for freedmen, the African Americans who had formerly been slaves. In the 1870s, Democrats gradually returned to power in the Southern states, sometimes as a result of elections in which paramilitary groups intimidated opponents, attacking blacks or preventing them from voting. Gubernatorial elections were close and disputed in Louisiana for years, with extreme violence being unleashed during the campaigns. In 1877, a national compromise to gain Southern support in the presidential election resulted in the last of the federal troops being withdrawn from the South. White Democrats had regained political power in every Southern state. These conservative, white, Democratic Redeemer governments legislated Jim Crow laws, which segregated black people from the white population, and upheld them constitutionally as “separate but equal” rights

How and why did the ancient world come to represent criticism of the Old Regime?
Oduvanchick [21]

Old regime is considered to be the most tyrannical period because there was prevalence of absolute monarchy. It was criticized a lot during the period of enlightenment.

Explanation:

King Louis XIV is the absolute monarch who had instructed that there shall be three estates in the french society. The first estate comprised of clergy and members of king’ family, the second estate comprised of nobles who were oppressive and rebellious. They held the public offices in the kingdom. They hardly paid any taxes and they were rich and opulent personalities in the society and the third estate comprised of French citizens who were squeezed a lot by taxes. Mostly farmers were categorized under this division.

During the period of enlightenment people started to criticize such a despotic rule of monarch and there was a huge awareness and liking towards democracy and its significance.
