1) Some, unable to pay their mortgages, lost their plantations when the banks foreclosed. Some sold out to Northern carpetbaggers. Those who were able to keep their land realized that they could not sustain cotton production on an industrial scale without the slave labor force, because they could not afford to pay living wages. They developed a system called sharecropping by which the field hands would receive a portion of the crop in exchange for their labor. The sharecroppers lived on the plantation in their own shacks. In practice, the system was little better than slavery. the sharecropper had to pay their rent out of their share of the crop, with very little left over for anything beyond subsistence.

2) Because, as with most wars, it was funded and run by the rich but the fighters on the front lines were often poor farmers and other middle class civilians. Poor whites had to compete with freedmen for the few available jobs. Unable to find work, many chose to migrate.

Answer:

Credits and land concessions.

Explanation:

Hello!

During his presidency, Lincoln understood the need to unite the eastern and western extremes of the United States, through a transportation system that would guarantee some safety and speed in travel.

In 1865, the Congress passed by law the financing of the first transcontinental railroad construction, which linked the city of Omaha with the city of Sacramento.

In order to carry out the execution of the works, the government hired the companies <em>"Central Pacific"</em> and <em>"Unión Pacific"</em>.

On May 10, 1869, the act of inauguration of the railway line was carried out, in which Stanford placed the <em>"Golden Spike" </em>in Promontory, Utah.

Answer:

In the War of 1812, the United States took on the greatest naval power in the world, Great Britain, in a conflict that would have an immense impact on the young country’s future. Causes of the war included British attempts to restrict U.S. trade, the Royal Navy’s impressment of American seamen and America’s desire to expand its territory. The United States suffered many costly defeats at the hands of British, Canadian and Native American troops over the course of the War of 1812, including the capture and burning of the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., in August 1814. Nonetheless, American troops were able to repulse British invasions in New York, Baltimore and New Orleans, boosting national confidence and fostering a new spirit of patriotism. The ratification of the Treaty of Ghent on February 17, 1815, ended the war but left many of the most contentious questions unresolved. Nonetheless, many in the United States celebrated the War of 1812 as a “second war of independence,” beginning an era of partisan agreement and national pride.
