1. CH4 + 202 ----------- CO2 + 2H20

Chemistry
1 answer:
saul85 [17]3 years ago
4 0

Answer:

16.36 grams

Explanation:

From the reaction equation:

CH4 + 2O2-------------------------- CO2 + 2H2O

1 : 2 1 : 2

If 20g of CO2 was produced, then the number of moles of CO2 is given by :

Molar mass of CO2 = 12 + [2 x 16]

                                = 44 gram/moles

Number of moles = Mass in gram/ Molar mass

= 20/ 44

= 0.4545 moles

if 0.4545 moles of CO2 were produced, then according to the equation of reaction, then:

Number of moles of H2O produced will be = 2 x 0.4545

                                                                         = 0.909moles

Molar Mass of H2O = [1 x2] + [16]

                                 = 18 grams/ mol

The mass of H2O produced will be = Number of moles x Molar Mass

                                                           = 0.909 moles x 18 grams/mole

                                                           = 16.362 grams

                                                           ≈ 16.36 grams

The law of mass action suggests that _____.
mina [271]
The law of conservation of mass states that a mass of an object or the amount of matter composed inside an object or thing will not change unless it is added or removed of the matter that is contained in the object itself.

This means that for example, when you're bag has a mass of a 1kg, and you filled it with clothes it will jump its mass from 1kg to possibly 5kg, hypothetically. Thus, withoout the object or clothes that was added the weight of the bad wouldn't change and vice-versa.

If you were told an atom was an ion, you would know the atom must have a neutral charge. charge. negative charge. positive charg
chubhunter [2.5K]

Answer: When an atom is an ion, it must have a charge.

Explanation:

An ion is formed when a neutral atom looses or gains electrons.

  • When an atom looses electrons, it results in the formation of positive ion known as cation. For Example: Sodium looses 1 electron to form Na^+ ion.
  • When an atom gains electrons, it results in the formation of negative ion known as anion. For Example: Chlorine gains 1 electron to form Cl^- ion.

Hence, when an atom is an ion, it must have a charge.
