What the author intends to express in this quote is that it is easy to live in the world, if someone chooses to live by other's expectations. Living by the opinion of others is eassy because it avoids confrontaition with different opinions, it is leaving by the rules of others.

By the other hand, it is also easy or confortable to live alone, or to avoid contact with others, and be around difference of opinios, or to have to manage to come to common grounds.

He thinks that is of greatness to be a man, who can be sweet and maintain his solitude independenc among the crowd.
