Many things can be considered a ‘region’ such as deserts, grasslands, a mountainous range, etc. or as the answer above demonstrates things such as northwestern, southeastern, western, etc. can be called regions as well. It depends on the context of the question.

Rift valleys are Formed  from either from the action of tensional forces in the crust or from the action of compressional forces!

And they move due to the force of gravity!

The block mountain (horst) is left standing higher above the sunken graben!
