2)write out measurements
3)work out the area of your new triangle- 1/2BxH-1/2x8x9=36^2
4)work out the area of the original triangle excluding the shaded area- 1/2x5x8=20^2
5)subtract the original triangle area from the new triangle 36-20=16
6) you now have the area of the shaded triangle= 16^2 units

just work out the area of the shaded area using the area formula
