Area of a rectangle= length x width

length= 4 x width

36= width x (4 x width)

36= 4 x width^2

36/4= width^2

9=width^2

square root (9)= width

width= 3

36=length x width

36= length x 3

36/3= length

length=12

Determine the value of the following if it is possible. If it is not possible, explain.
dmitriy555 [2]

Option D:

The dimensions of the matrices don't align properly to find their sum.

Solution:

Given data:

\left[\begin{array}{c}3 \\-2\end{array}\right]+\left[\begin{array}{cc}5 & -3 \\1 & 4\end{array}\right]

Dimension of matrix = Number of rows × Number of columns

Dimension of matrix \left[\begin{array}{c}3 \\-2\end{array}\right] is 2 × 1

Dimension of matrix \left[\begin{array}{cc}5 & -3 \\1 & 4\end{array}\right] is 2 × 2

Here, we have to add the two matrices.

<em>The dimension of the matrices must be same to add or subtract matrices.</em>

Here the dimensions are 2 × 1 and 2 × 2.

The dimensions are not same.

Hence we can't find their sum.

Option D is the correct answer.

The dimensions of the matrices don't align properly to find their sum.
