Germanic king Odoacer defeated Romulus Augustus, the last Roman emperor and conquered the western part of the Roman empire.  

<u>EXPLANATION:</u>

  • After the fall of Rome in 476 CE, it was divided into two parts: the Western part and the Eastern part.
  • The Western part was taken over by the Germanic kingdom as Odoacer their ruler and the Eastern part was held together by the Byzantine kingdom.
  • Constantinople was chosen as the "new capital of the Byzantine kingdom". Christianity flourished after the "fall of Rome" though it was not a widespread religion before the fall.
  • The expansion of Christianity was a consequence of legalization of Christianity in the Byzantine empire and this led to the decrease in number or people practicing Islam.
  • Hence, Christianity became a religion of the majority rather than earlier being a religion of a small minority.
