There is a short in the light in Holden's office, so it makes a soft but constant, high-pitched sound. Maintenance workers have

not been able to fix the problem. When Travis walks into Holden's office, he says, "How can you stand that awful noise?" Holden spends a moment listening, and then says, "I don't even hear it anymore." Holden has been exposed to the sound so long that he has experienced.

Answer: he has experienced Sensory adaptation

Explanation: Sensory adaptation is the reduction or partial elimination of sensitivity after prolonged or continuous exposure to a particular stimulus. This includes sense of sight, smell, hearing, touch and propioception (sense of self orientation).

Holden's sense of hearing has adapted to the high pitched sound due to exposure over a long period ot time. Sensory adaptation is important as it alerts our other senses to perceive changes around us. This has allowed Holden to be able to perform his duties as he barely notices the sound anymore.

Our ability to be aware of some parts of our environment while ignoring other parts is called:
Marat540 [252]
It's called selective attention. It consists of a very selective attention as the name sáis because we focuse on a single thing ignoring the rest, and that's why it is called that way. Most human beings have this type of attention because they focuse on a single thing, sometimes this attention is better for concentration but some others we also need to focuse in more than one thing to get a better result. You can work on your selective attention to improve it so you can focuse on the important things, there are various methods to do it and from my point of view are very useful. Dafna11 [192]

Answer:

Interactionism.

Explanation:

William I. Thomas observed that people respond not only to the objective features of a situation or person, but also to the social meaning that situation or person has for them. This observation reflects the interactionist perspective. According to the Thomas theorem, people do not react to reality but to what they perceive as real. Definitions of what is "real" differ between individuals. People interpret their world and they act accordingly. The way people interpret the world comes from social institutions such as family.
