Although Wang's father shared his good fortune with others, they still turned on him. Wang's father was good a fisherman, but the people in his school did not care. The teachers and students at the school did not like the carp that Wang had brought them. Wang's father was wise to share his fish with his friends.

In "The Carp," by Yun Wang, the use of the carp to represent something deeper is an example of Synecdoche. The carp is used to represent the pain and injustice of her father’s imprisonment. “The Carp is dedicated to Wang’s father, and many of the poems in her little book tell stories from that period.
