First find common denominators. Multiply 4 to the second fraction's numerator and denominator.


(-9/3)(4/4) = -36/12


-5/12 - (-36/12) = Answer


Note that two negatives = one positive.


-5/12 + 36/12 = Answer


Combine the terms


31/12 = Answer


Change into mixed fraction


31/12 = 2 7/12


2 7/12 is your answer
