The unalienable rights mentioned in the Declaration of Independence means that Americans have rights that cannot be taken away under any circumstances. You will keep these rights all throughout your life, and nobody, not even the government can take these away from you. This calmed Americans nerves as discrimination and racism was just starting to finally get resolved, so when people heard that they have rights that can never be taken, they felt safe and even secure.
