For some time now, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has been making anti-AIDS drugs available in hard-hit areas of Africa at up to 75% off
hram777 [196]

Answer:

Discretionary

Explanation:

While the ultimate objective of any business is to make a profit, they also exist in a society, and thus, just like every other entity or individual that lives in  said society, they have a social responsiblity towards others. There are several different types of social responsibilities that companies have, like economic, ethical and legal responsibilities, but another one is discretionary social responsibility. This term refers to the idea that companies should contribute towards society in some way or another in order to improve the quality of life of the community. This can be accomplished in several ways, either by donating money towards certain charities or social projects, or by providing some of their products at reduced prices to disadvantaged people. In our case, <u>by providing cheap anti-AIDS drugs to certain African areas, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is acting with discretionary social responsibility</u>.

Does boeing practice a multinational operations strategy, a global operations strategy, or a transnational operations strateg
NNADVOKAT [17]

Answer:

A. Global. It's level of Integration goes beyond multinational. The collection of parts and subassemblies coming from other countries is carefully orchestrated. It is not transnational because it's "home" is clearly the US and there is little sense of local responsiveness.

Explanation:

  • Boeing 786 has partners and suppliers in more than a dozen countries. More than 35% of these are made in Japan and more than 10 in Italy. 70 to 80% of Dreamliners are manufactured by other companies.
  • This is typical of the global strategy, where partner countries participate in the development process, but the final development takes place in the parent company. The Boeing 787 is a very high-tech product, so there is almost no local accountability. So it's a global strategy.

How do you feel about the action of civil disobedience to push politicians to act on climate change?
kakasveta [241]
Civil disobedience can be viewed by many as a weapon against injustice and cruelty. It enables people to help out others by standing up against their oppressors. It gives them an opportunity to allow someone a fair and just chance at life. It allowed people to end slavery in the United States, and wars in Mexico

- to what extent was fear of "too much democracy" a motive for writing the u.s. constitution?
aliina [53]

American founding fathers were concerned with the limits of democracy. Their concerns are similar to those of political philosophers such as John Stuart Mill (<em>On Liberty</em>) and Alexis de Tocqueville (<em>Democracy in America</em>). In particular, they were concerned that an excess of democracy would lead to a “tyranny of the majority.”

The tyranny of the majority refers to a situation in democratic rule where a self-interested majority can put their interests above those of the minority. It is an inherent weakness of majority rule and can lead to the oppression of minorities.

Alexander Hamilton wrote to Thomas Jefferson about this worry after The Constitutional Convention in 1787, and the constitution that was drafted reflects these concerns. The Electoral College is partly a safety mechanism to prevent the democratic victory of a tyrannical despot. Other mechanisms introduced were the Bill of Rights and the division of power, which prevents the centralization of all power in one individual, even a democratically elected one.
